Automotive Batteries And Water Refilling Requirements

One of the important and expensive accessories of the vehicles is the battery installed in them. These batteries are named as automotive batteries as they are intended to supply the electric power to the automobiles, motorcycle batteries, car batteries and truck batteries are few examples of these batteries.

Automotive batteries are basically rechargeable batteries that are installed for supplying the electric energy to the vehicles. These batteries are also termed as Starting, Lighting, Ignition batteries or simply SLI batteries. They primarily used to power the motors like starter motors, ignition systems and the necessary lighting system. These batteries are generally made up from the lead-acid type. It employs sets of galvanic cells that are sequenced and arranged in series, one after the other. Typically, these batteries are designed to supply 12 volt supply to the electric accessories of the vehicles. Most of these batteries can be recycled. This battery recycling provision helps reducing the need of manufacturing the new batteries, prevents various risks caused by the improper disposal and diverts toxic lead to be continuously deposited in the land.

The life of the batteries used in the vehicles can be increased with some of the methods. Primarily the important factor that defines the long life of the batteries is the regular maintenance of the same. When car batteries are maintained in the proper way and do the servicing and maintenance in the regular periods of time, they provide the services for a long period of time. It eventually stretches the time of replacement of the batteries. 

Batteries used in the cars are generally making use of the lead antimony plates. Whenever, these batteries are recharged, the process of electrolysis would be done. The process of the electrolysis eventually causes the loss of water in the batteries. So, it is necessary for the regular watering so towards compensating the loss of water in the batteries. There would be easily detachable caps placed on top of the batteries. We need to remove these caps and fill it with the distilled water from time to time.

However, the newer technologies like alloying the elements using calcium demands less frequency of filling of water. These batteries however would encounter the water loss, when the battery is overcharged.

The modern cars are equipped with the batteries also with no need of water filling. These batteries are made by including the extra electrolyte that would allow the water loss. This water loss is compensated automatically during the life of the battery.

Batteries for heavier vehicles are generally provided with the deep cycle batteries for sale. These are designed to deeply discharge delivering most of the capacity to the load. It is opposite to the static batteries, which are designed to run short period of time. These are also lead-acid batteries that are designed to deliver the capacity ranging from 50% to 80%. Heavy vehicles batteries such as truck batteries would need this kind of technology of the batteries, so that they run longer without much frequent charge of the batteries.
The new technology batteries are also designed to be supercharge batteries for better capacity of the batteries.
